What does hypnosis feel like? It is a pleasant and enjoyable state, very similar to daydreaming. You are deeply relaxed and calm, aware of everything happening around you. Some words that have been used to describe the hypnotic experience are: very relaxed, dreamy, numb, heavy, drifting. Usually the physical symptoms that are present during hypnosis are:
-
slowed breathing
-
lower blood pressure
-
slower heart rate
-
less muscular tension.
How long are follow up sessions? Allow about 60 -90 minutes.
How will my confidentiality be safeguarded? Whatever is discussed remains between the two of us. The only time that I will break confidentiality is if I thought that you were at risk of harming yourself or others. I am registered with Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, a member of British Institute of Hypnotherapy and General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. I am bound by their strict codes of conduct which ensures that all clients receive only the best care and the completeconfidentiality and privacy that they expect and deserve.
Will I see immediate improvement? In most cases, you will start to get positive results after your first appointment.
What if I can’t be hypnotised? If you want to be, you can.
Can anyone be hypnotised?Anyone with reasonable intelligence, an imagination, and who is motivated to change and enjoys being relaxed and focused can be effectively hypnotized.
Is Hypnosis safe? Yes, it is similar to meditation or daydreaming. You are aware and in control at every moment and can end the session at any time. Each individual has a protective mechanism of ethics, values, beliefs and identities, which protect them, therefore you cannot be made to do something that is against your will.
Am I in control? Yes, you are completely in control, you are awake and free to reject suggestions. Should you accept suggestions, these will root in your unconscious mind and begin to have beneficial effects straight away.
I have had hypnotherapy in the past and it hasn’t worked. Can you still help?
Yes, success will depend on several factors: your level of desire, expectation and compliance for change; your rapport with the therapist and the methods used. For example, my first experience of hypnotherapy was unsuccessful. The method used by the therapist was suggestion only which, other than gaining wonderful relaxation had no other effect. However, when I saw a hypnotherapist who used advanced methods, the effect was very positive indeed. I address the cause of an issue not the symptom using tried and tested techniques.
